"true story of higher education"
for my Monday night lit class
we had to read and analyze
Emily Dickinson.
this one guy read #214:
I taste a liquor never brewed---
From Tankards scooped in Pearl---
Not all the Vats upon the Rhine
Yield such an Alcohol!
(you can look up the rest of it.)
"ok, I think she's talking about
partying all night and
drinking a lot. she says
'I taste a liquor never brewed,'
that's gotta be some kind of
strong beer...and 'vats'...
well, a vat is what's used to hold
liquor, and I don't know what
a Rhine is...I guess a Rhine is a row,
so it's a row of vats..."
I sat there
disgusted
disgusted with lit class and
disgusted with college kids.
I began wishing for
a Rhine of vats
myself.

The Rhine is a river in Germany, the region and side of the river are very steep mountains covered in grape vines it is a very famous wine region. So basically whatever she's drinking out does all the wines from the Rhine region.

P.S. Not my official interpretation I'm at work and not supposed to be here
P.p.s. I've been for a cruise on the Rhine and drank wine in one of the villages I think its mostly Riesling but possibly Gewurtztraminner as well.
P.P.P.S That guy will probably end up the CEO of a company
